“Ang descriptive research design ay isang quantitative o mixed-methods na disenyo na nakatuon sa paglalarawan ng kasalukuyang kondisyon, katangian, o phenomena nang walang manipulasyon ng variables, gamit ang mga survey, observation, o existing data upang magbigay ng maaasahang "snapshot" ng sitwasyon (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). Ito ay partikular na angkop sa exploratory studies na naglalayong tukuyin ang "ano" at "gaano kalaki" ng isang bagay, hindi ang "bakit" o causal relationships. Ayon kay Sekaran at Bougie (2016) sa Research Methods for Business, ang descriptive research ay "ideal for profiling characteristics of a population," tulad ng pag-rate ng kahusayan gamit ang rubrics o Likert scales sa mga student outputs.
