Delfor "Delfo" Cabrera Gómez (April 2, 1919 – August 2, 1981) was an Argentine athlete, winner of the marathon race at the 1948 Summer Olympics in one of the most dramatic finishes in athletics history.

Cabrera cruised comfortably to the finish with Richards in second place, while Gailly agonisingly managed to scrape the bronze medal.

He was wobbling and stumbling along the track, evoking memories of Dorando Pietri in 1908. On the track, he was passed first by Argentina’s Delfo Cabrera, who had run a steady pace moving up throughout, and then by Britain’s Tom Richards. Cabrera won the gold medal, with Richards second.

She elected to compete in the 100, 200, high hurdles and on the Dutch relay team, and she won gold medals in all four events, sitting out two events in which she was the world record holder. The 1948 Olympics also saw the Olympic début of two of its great stars, Czech runner Emil Zátopek and American decathlete Bob Mathias.

At the Olympic Games in London, Argentinean marathon runner Delfo Cabrera surprised the world with his gold-medal performance. Despite trailing for the majority of the 26.2 mile race, Cabrera entered London’s Olympic Stadium with the determination to secure gold for his country. He sprinted past Etienne Gailly of Belgium and held off the challenge from silver medalist Tom Richards from Great Britain to reach the top of the podium at the Olympics in his first major international competition.
