FBI Director Kash Patels Email Breached by Iran-Linked Hackers

WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - Iran-linked hackers have broken into ​FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email inbox, publishing photographs of the director and other documents to the internet, the hackers and the ‌bureau said on Friday.

Hackers connected to the Iranian government accessed FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal email and posted materials — including photos and documents — taken from his account, a person familiar with the breach confirmed to CNN.

Some are of Patel appearing to be on a trip to Cuba. U.S. officials told Patel in late 2024 that he had been the target of an Iranian cyberattack before he agreed to lead the FBI, and that the hackers had sought his communications.

Iran-linked hacking group Handala posted documents and photos they claimed to have stolen from the FBI director. The FBI confirmed the agency was "aware of malicious actors targeting" Director Kash Patel’s personal email.

Emails and photographs stolen from a personal email account of Kash Patel, the director of the F.B.I., circulated online on Friday, as hackers who claimed to be part of a group affiliated with Iranian intelligence took responsibility for the release.
