As Norway's totemic striker Erling Haaland guided his country into the latter stages of the 2026 World Cup, a doctored video appearing to show him being startled by his own reflection was viewed millions of times on Chinese social media. AFP found the clip -- which contains visual inconsistencies typical of synthetic content -- had been altered from a skit posted by a Chinese content creator.

"The club fully investigated and found that none of the evidence, including video footage, backed up the claim that an injury was ­sustained in the manner alleged," a City spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Before the tournament, Haaland introduced himself to broadcasters as “Erling Braut Haaland,” and he uses his full name on some of his social media platforms.

“I often hear him referred to as a machine, as a monster, or as someone who was built in a lab,” he tells The Athletic, “and it really gets on my nerves, because it’s the most wrong you can possibly be — at least about his childhood.

That said, the closest you can get to the real Haaland is to follow him on Snapchat, where he, basically, ‘s***posts’ (intentionally, and perhaps ironically, sharing low-quality content) and appears to have less of a filter than he does elsewhere.
