Can one household have 4 different external IP addresses at once

β€œIt would be a somewhat unusual set up for a household to have four different external IP addresses in use simultaneously at the same physical location. It could happen on a mobile device not connected to the home WiFi (or a member of the household, covered by the license, watching while on the move).”

Summary

A typical home normally receives only one external IP address from its ISP, so having four different public IPs in use at the same time is uncommon. It can occur, however, if the household runs multiple broadband connections, uses a mobile data connection, or has devices that frequently obtain new dynamic IPs, making the scenario described plausible.

(Note that I'm only considering IPv4, leaving IPv6 and IPv4-to-IPv6 translation behind, and also note that ISPs can use more obscure/hackish/non-standard network configurations) ... This answer is misleading and in some places downright wrong. for start (ignoring network, gateway and router) a "/10" is 2^22 addresses = 4,194,302 - not 1024. It could be tricky from an accounting POV, but there is noting from stopping the same /10 to be deployed in multiple locations on their network - and this is without hacks like using QoS bits or ports.

this is easiest way to do it. you assign multiple ip addresses to one incoming interface of router and then separate traffic by using nat. whatever isp does on their end is up to them.

  • [SOLVED] Two Separate IP Addresses For Same House? | Tech Support Forum

Surely there isn't anything stopping both companies from recognising the IP address at your home (I assume it is a static IP, or it can change). Then there wouldn't be any problem. If you were to have two IP addresses, it would either be complicated, or you would have to install another line as a second broadband connection to your house (maybe even an extra phone line). Don't try and get the LAN confused with the WAN. One WAN IP address, multiple LAN IP addresses.
