Was Kendrick Johnsons Body Mutilated After Autopsy?

The statement cites a quote from Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson who says: "In this case, the Viscera, which is the internal organs, were not sent back with the body for disposition. It was confirmed by Mr. Bryan, (a death investigator with the crime lab), who was present at the autopsy, that the viscera were disposed of due to decomposition of the same.'" When contacted by Crimesider on Friday, Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson first claimed he has no idea what happened to Johnson's organs.

The case was reopened by Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk, who wasn't in office during the first investigation into Johnson's death, in 2021. Months later, Paulk released a report that said all of the physical evidence, interviews, and grand jury testimony "does not produce anything to prove any criminal act by anyone that would have resulted in the death of Kendrick Johnson."

The teenager's family announced Thursday that the Florida lawyer who helped push for a criminal prosecution in the shooting of Trayvon Martin has joined efforts to reopen an investigation into Johnson's death. His parents also revealed that when Johnson's body was exhumed over the summer for a second autopsy, the private pathologist discovered his organs were missing and newspaper had been used to fill the body cavity.

On June 15, 2013, at his family’s request, Kendrick Johnson’s body was exhumed and Dr. William Anderson conducted a second autopsy.
