In that report, examiners were not able to link the rifle to the bullet fragment recovered during the autopsy of Charlie Kirk. However, they were also not able to rule it out either, which is why the state requested additional testing.

The newly public report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives states that examiners could not conclusively match a damaged bullet fragment recovered during the investigation to the rifle prosecutors say was used in the killing.

The analysis said that one bullet jacket fragment that was recovered from Kirk's autopsy matched a .30 caliber class bullet that matches the same caliber as the Mauser 98 30-06 rifle recovered near the scene, which prosecutors claim Robinson used.

Even so, investigators say the evidence still supports the case as the bullet type and cartridge match the rifle. The defense has focused on the fact that the bullet cannot be directly tied to the gun.
