Book 7 (Persepolis Rising) would be the next one to read to continue where the show left off. The series finale of the show is titled "Babylon's Ashes" (which is the title of the sixth book) and covers the end of that book.

The Expanse book series is hard science fiction (science fiction based in science fact), much like Frank Herbert's Dune and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. Some of the technology that appears in the book series pops up at different points throughout the show. For instance, contraband stealth tech that may be from book 5 is mentioned in the pilot episode. But overall, the technology that appears in the books is faithfully rendered in the TV series.

Though The Expanse books provide an explanation for the Ring entities’ motivations, the show remains maddeningly vague all the way to the end. The incomplete storyline in The Expanse would have been fine except for the fact that the Ring network anomaly played such a crucial role in The Expanse season 6. Moreover, the series finale shows the Rocinante using the Ring entities to destroy Marco, knowing it will likely wake the Gods permanently.

This novella helps build the plot of Cara and Xan in The Expanse season 6. The Expanse series finale premiered on January 13, 2023, wrapping up six seasons of stories. These seasons didn't cover the final 3 books in the eponymous series.

While the show mentioned that the Martian Parliament was also attacked, that event took place largely off screen, and Alex and Bobbie never had to handle having the leader or a planet crammed with them inside the tiny Razorback. This is a good idea for an article, but very (VERY!) incomplete, especially in the context of Season 3’s first episodes airing. The most obvious ommission is Anna Volovodov’s role. Her appearance in S03E02 doesn’t have any equivalent in the book series. I would have also mentioned characters being merged, like Drummer in the TV show covering two characters from the book (hersef + Sam), and Errinwright (himself + Admiral Nguyen), etc.

The Expanse finale left many of its science fiction mysteries unsolved, but delivered an emotionally satisfying series ending with plenty of space-set thrills nonetheless.
