Moon Wont Turn Green for 3 Nights Due to Solar Storm

Total lunar eclipses occur in phases. According to NASA, the moon will begin to slide into Earth’s penumbra, the outer part of its shadow, at 3:44 a.m. Eastern time.

This event, often referred to as a blood moon, occurs when Earth moves directly between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow on the satellite’s surface and causing it to appear crimson, according to NASA. This eclipse is the last of three consecutive total lunar eclipses, said Dr. C. Alex Young, associate director for science communication in the heliophysics science division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The event, also called an annular solar eclipse, occurs “when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, but the moon is too far away in its orbit to completely cover the sun’s disk,” Dr. C. Alex Young, associate director for science communication in the Heliophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said in an email.

Australia and eastern Asia can catch it Tuesday night. Partial stages of the eclipse with small bites taken out of the moon can be seen from Central Asia and much of South America.
