Virgin Media boxes dont adjust image ratio in 2160 mode

“VirginMedia boxes actually switch the image ratio to display it correctly even when set to 2160 mode.”
False
Confidence: High Checked on May 9, 2026

Summary

Virgin Media set‑top boxes output a fixed 2160p signal for 4K TVs and rely on the TV’s own scaling and aspect‑ratio settings. They upscale SD/HD content but do not automatically change the image ratio; the correct aspect ratio must be selected via the box’s “wide” or “regular” output or the TV’s settings. Therefore, the claim that the boxes switch the image ratio to display correctly in 2160 mode is inaccurate.

  • V6 Video Output Settings. | AVForums

In this instance and if using a 4K TV then you'd be using both the V6 and the TV to scale the SD video. The next highest resolution selected on the V6 would be what the V6 scales the video to and the TV would then scale this to the TV's panel resolution of 2160p. I'd not select the 576p, 720p or the 1080p options on the V6. Virgin Media do not cnvey any channels that have a native 1080p or 720p resolution.

It will be down to your TV's settings and has nothing to do with the output of the Virgin box. You have two setting on the V box, wide and the regular output as it is broadcasted.
