When asked if it is safe to assume that Blanche should not count on his vote on Thursday unless he receives those commitments in writing, Cornyn, who lost his primary to a Trump-backed candidate earlier this year, said, "That is correct."

Cornyn spoke to reporters after Trump declared on Truth Social that he would be willing to withdraw Blanche’s nomination to be attorney general until Cornyn and Tillis were no longer in office. "All you need is four to tank the nomination, so you don't have to take your shoes off to count that high," Cornyn told reporters, referring to the number of Republicans who would need to vote against Blanche alongside all Democrats to reject his nomination,

“It’s unfortunate that Todd Blanche, who I consider qualified for the job, will not be confirmed because of this reversal,” Tillis wrote on social media, referring to the Judiciary Committee’s next meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning.
