Fact Check: Was caroline Leavitt on the us decoy plane

Two members of US President Donald Trump's cabinet flew on a decoy plane last month that Trump secretly exited in order to board a different flight, according to the BBC's US partner CBS News.

The Washington Post reports that Donald Trump was accompanied by some of his most loyal and longest-serving aides – but no cabinet officials – in the astonishing decoy operation to get him off Air Force One, via a catering truck, in response to a potential Iranian assassination threat last month in Turkey. Other passengers on the truck included Dan Scavino, the White House deputy chief of staff; Natalie Harp, the president’s executive assistant; and Walt Nauta, the director of Oval Office operations, according to a US official familiar with the operation and corroborating material reviewed by the outlet, which first reported the story on Monday.

Social media posts claimed the White House press secretary was left on the plane exposed to an allegedly credible threat from Iran.

Several high-profile cabinet members, including U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were on the decoy plane. ... In Leavitt’s comments, one user wrote, “Trump didn't give a f--- about you after he let you get on that decoy plane huh?”

The claim is false. While reports indicate that Karoline Leavitt was aboard the decoy plane during Trump’s secret aircraft switch in Turkiye, there is no evidence that the incident influenced her decision to leave the White House.

That operation took place in Ankara on July 8, and remained secret for a month before the switcheroo came to light. Now, just as scrutiny over the security operation intensifies, Leavitt’s leaving announcement swoops in to steal some of the spotlight. She was not aboard the decoy plane in July.
