Paul even writes in one New Testament passage about meeting James, the brother of Jesus. These early disciples not only believed Jesus was real but were willing to die for him. People don’t die for myths, some biblical scholars say. They will if the experience is powerful enough, says Richard Carrier, author of “Proving History.” Carrier says it’s probable that Jesus never really existed and that early Christians experienced a mythic Jesus who came to them through visions and revelations.

But what is so often doubted is His divinity—His divine Sonship, His miracles, His ability to forgive sins and heal and regenerate human souls, His power over life and death. In recent years the so-called “Jesus Seminar” has focused our attention on the words of Jesus.

As noted in section 1.1, this fits the portrayal of God, humanity, and Jesus in the scriptures, and many theologians would argue that the mind is an essential aspect of the divine nature and the human nature. The view that Christ has two minds is affirmed by TCM and DPM. The difference between these two models lies in the number of consciousnesses they postulate of Christ. The consciousness is the aspect of the mind which, when it is active, exhibits a mental condition characterized by the experience of perceptions, thoughts, and awareness of the external world (Colman 2001: 160).

I have been, at this point in my education, exposed to instances– both Jewish sources and Greco-Roman sources– that identify Jesus as not only a historical figure but as a miracle worker. But Jesus mythicists will wave that away. They’ll claim that those documents have come to us from early Christian scribes who have doctored the evidence. And then fourth, the epistles teach about a heavenly, non-historical Jesus.

Jesus refers to himself as the Son of God in the New Testament. Christians consider Jesus to be the Messiah (Christ) and believe that through his death and resurrection, humans can be reconciled to God and thereby are offered salvation and the promise of eternal life.

While there has been theological debate over the nature of Jesus, Trinitarian Christians believe that Jesus is the Logos, God incarnate (God in human form), God the Son, and "true God and true man"—fully divine and fully human.

According to Price, the Toledot Yeshu places Jesus "about 100 BCE", while Epiphanius of Salamis and the Talmud make references to "Jewish and Jewish-Christian belief" that Jesus lived about a century earlier than usually assumed. According to Price, this implies that "perhaps the Jesus figure was at first an ahistorical myth and various attempts were made to place him in a plausible historical context, just as Herodotus and others tried to figure out when Hercules 'must have' lived".
